INFORMATION

Ikaria is one of the middle islands of the northern Aegean. It is named after Ikarus, who according to Greek mythology was the son of master craftsman Deadalus, believed to have fallen into the sea nearby. Ikarians have always been self-sufficient people, mainly shepards, farmers, fisherman and craftsmen. They farm their own land, growing their own supply of fruit, vegetables and herbs. The island is also famous for its tradition of panagiria, or festivals.
